Master of Dental Surgery (MDS)

MDS course is available in five specialties. Detail of sanctioned seats w.e.f. academic year 2020 is as under :-

Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics - 3 seats

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery                  -3 seats

Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry       -3 seats

Periodontics                                           -3 seats

Prosthodontics                                        -2 seats

Total                                    =                14 Seats.

Candidates are eligible for entrance to these courses after completing BDS course including Internship. The number of seats in each course is decided from time to time. Admissions are made through Punjab post graduate entrance test for 50% of the seats and the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted by DGHS, New Delhi for remaining 50% of the seats. Reservation of seats for scheduled castes/ tribes and other backward classes is made according to State Government rules. During the 3 year MDS courses the doctor is attached to the respective department. Course content and structure are as per the guidelines laid down by Dental Council of India. During MDS Course each student receive hands on training in emergencies pertaining to that specialty, outpatient and inpatient management (including diagnosis and treatment) and community services. Addtionally, the student also does research and writes a thesis and library dissertation. The MDS degree is conferred after acceptance of his/her thesis, library dissertation and  passing the prescribed MDS examination, consisting of written, clinical (or practical) and viva voice. Each students admitted to the MDS course gets stipend/scholarship of Rs 21000/- month plus DA as admissible from time to time for a period of 36 months. Each student admitted to the MDS course will have to submit a bond of Rs 15.00 Lakh.
